Obituary of Hector E. Crespo

Please share a memory of Hector to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Hector E. Crespo, 66, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on July 18, after a five-year battle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Hector was born on December 27, 1957, to Ezequiel and Antonia Crespo, in Brooklyn, New York. Hector and his parents then moved to Manhattan where he would later become older brother to Daiana and David Crespo. Throughout his youth, Hector was heavily involved in a Manhattan community organization called Henry Street Settlement, which gave him the opportunity to become a decorated member of the Boy Scouts of America, as well as the opportunity to seriously take up the sport of football. Hector split the summers of his youth being camp counselor at various boy scout camps, as well as helping out on a family farm in the mountains of Puerto Rico.

After graduating high school in Manhattan, Hector received a football scholarship to play as linebacker at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he was also a proud member of fraternity Omega Psi Phi. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business, he promptly started his first job as a manager of designer women’s shoes at Lord and Taylor, leading him to the position of managing director at Sak’s Fifth Avenue in Stamford, Connecticut, and later Manhattan. After 25 years with Saks, Hector switched gears and began employment as manager in various CVS pharmacy locations for the next 10 years. Hector’s career was characterized by his tireless work ethic and devotion to customer
service.

In February of 1983, Hector met Stacie Pappas at a Saks Fifth Avenue training event. Hector and Stacie married in August of 1989, and bought a home in Fairfield. Thirteen years later, they were blessed with their only child, Anastasia. In 2015, Hector retired and spent his time gardening, bird watching, walking through his beloved neighborhood, and committing himself fully to assisting his daughter with the navigation of high school. He bestowed in her his lifetime love of academics, nature, fashion, and football in their time together.

Hector was predeceased by his parents, Ezequiel and Antonia Crespo, in-laws Paul and Sophie Pappas. He is survived by his wife, Stacie Pappas Crespo, and their daughter, Anastasia S. Crespo. His brother, David Crespo, and wife, Madeline Campoverde Crespo, as well as their two children, Cristian and Caden. His sister Daiana, and her partner, Carmen Sanchez Crespo. Brother-in-law, Theodore P. Pappas,
brother in-law, Alexander A. Pappas, his daughter, Sara Pappas Montero, her husband, Walter Montero, and their two children Zoe and Walter. As well as Alexander’s son, Joshua A. Pappas and wife, Helen Smith Pappas, and their two children, Paul and Sophie.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 10:00-11:00am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Henry Street Settlement, an organization that contributed so much to the development of Hector’s life.
