Obituary of Thomas G. Ghianuly
Thomas G. Ghianuly, age 83, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Carolyn Campbell Ghianuly, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2019 in his home with his loving wife by his side.
Tom was born in Bridgeport on July 19, 1935, son of the late George and Edith Proxa Ghianuly and had been a lifelong Bridgeport resident. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and served in the Bahamas, Africa and Newfoundland where he learned the trade that he would work at for the rest of his life. Tom went on to be the owner and operator of the Compo Center Barber Shop in Westport where he worked for nearly sixty years.
Tom enjoyed caring for his garden and greenhouse, collecting antiques and decorating his home. More than anything he loved the barber shop and more so his clients that he cared for over generations or those that he just met last week. His clients loved him as well, honoring him at his fiftieth anniversary in business with a testimonial dinner receiving a proclamation from First Selectman Gordon Joseloff. Tommy will be fondly remembered as a humble, selfless person who put others before himself. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to Carolyn, his devoted wife of 49 years, survivors include his brothers, Leo Ghianuly, and his wife, Louise, of St. Petersburg, FL and Van Ghianuly, and his wife, Datev, of Phoenix,AZ; and his sister, Nora Hoag, of Shelton. Uncle Tommy leaves behind his nephews, George Hoag and Jason and Jake Ghianuly; nieces, Alexandrea Fair, Nicole English, and Jessica Ghianuly; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kylie, Luke and Colin English and Jeffrey and Thomas Fair; as well as a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jean and Dennis Pawlich; and his devoted little best friend "Lexa".
