Obituary of Thomas E. Howley
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas Edward Howley, Jr., age 95, of Fairfield, beloved husband of JoAnn Stapkowski Howley, passed peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Thursday evening, December 10, 2020.
Tom was born in Westport on June 26, 1925 to the late Thomas Edward Howley, Sr. and Madeline Brown Howley. Brother to the late John Raymond Howley, of Danbury, Tom spent much of his youth on the waters of Long Island Sound sailing, and working the clam beds for Allen's Clam House. He graduated a noted athlete from Staples High School in 1943.
Tom was a proud World War II Veteran where he served in the Navy as a radioman aboard the USS San Pablo in the South Pacific. Upon his completion of service, he began his career with SNET and ATT, where he retired after 36 years. Tom was an active member of Holy Cross Church in Fairfield and the Knights of Columbus Fr. Coleman Council Third Degree.
Tom was an avid Yankees and Giants fan and could often be found "enjoying" a social gathering with some of his many friends that preferred the Red Sox. He will be missed and remembered by all that knew him as a strong, true man and a "Good Guy".
In addition to his devoted wife of 70 years, JoAnn, Tom is survived by his three sons, Martin, Philip, and Thomas, and their families. His Earthly remains will be interred at St. Mary's Cemetery in Norwalk following private family services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Drive, Fairfield, CT 06825.
