Obituary of James T. Cashavelly
James T. Cashavelly, age 88, of Trumbull, CT, beloved husband of Sophie Fatsi Cashavelly, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.
Jim was born and raised in Bridgeport, son of the late Vasili and Sophie Ghianuly Cashavelly. Jim was a Connecticut resident his entire life, living in Bridgeport, Fairfield and Trumbull. Jim was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army.
He worked as an educator and principal for the Stratford Public School system at Chapel Street, Great Neck, Center, Lordship, Flood Junior High and Eli Whitney schools. He also served as a Field Supervisor for the Student Teacher Internship Graduate Program at Sacred Heart University from 1990-2004. He was a fifty-year member of the Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield, where he taught Sunday School, was chairman of the Board of Christian Education, served as an usher, led the Prison Ministry, participated in the Vacation Bible School and the church’s Care Program. Jim was a member of the NEA, CEA, SEA, SEPA, SEPAR, as well as the American Legion 74 of Fairfield. Jim grew up playing baseball and had a great passion for the game, as well as being a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife Sophie, of over 61 years. He also leaves behind his children, Theodore Vasil Cashavelly, Kristine Cashavelly-D’Ambrosio and her husband Christopher D’Ambrosio, Elaine Cashavelly-Cichon, as well as his grandchildren, Christopher Cichon and his wife Sarah Cichon, Brittany Shelby, Olivia Salza and her husband Nicholas Salza and Alex D’Ambrosio, his great grand-daughter Sophia Grace Dunkin, in addition to several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Viola (Pat) Altieri and Stella Mary Cashavelly.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 6 at 1pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center, with burial to follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Easton with full Military Honors. Friends may call on Friday from 12 noon until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to: Disabled American Veterans.
