Lester Schreiber, 79, of Shelton, formerly of Fairfield, beloved husband of Elizabeth Varga Schreiber, passed away on Thursday September 5, 2019.

In addition to his devoted wife of 53 years, Elizabeth, he leaves his children, Cornell Schreiber and his wife Christine, Jennifer Schreiber Dizney and her husband Jonathan; three cherished granddaughters, Jessica Schreiber, Rachel Dizney and Hannah Dizney; as well as, several extended family members and dear friends.

Born and raised in Croatia, he married Elizabeth in Hungary on July 23rd 1966. They started their family with the arrival of Cornell in 1967. In 1971 Lester and his family relocated to the United States taking residence in Connecticut. In 1977, they grew their family with the birth of Jennifer.

Lester worked nearly 30 years at Handy Harmon in Fairfield as a steel worker. He developed strong roots in the community moving eventually from Fairfield to Shelton.

Lester’s primary passion was his family, and that passion grew with the addition of new family members over the years. He was at his happiest when his granddaughters would visit and have sleepovers. He also had a love for collecting coins, stamps, and watching politics (unless his grandchildren took the remote for cartoons) and sharing his spirited opinions.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 14th at 10:30 AM at Lesko & Polke Funeral Home 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Friends may greet his family from 9:30 AM until the time of service. His entombment in Mountain Grove Mausoleum will be private.
