Obituary of Robert J Sabo
Robert ( Bob ) John Sabo passed away peacefully in his home Wednesday March 13, 2019 from a chronic illness at 83 years old.
Bob was born and raised in Black Rock, Ct, son of John and Mary ( Dori ) Sabo. He was predeceased by his sister Louise Caramanica. He attended St. Ann's School, Fairfield Preparatory School and Fairfield University. He helped pay for his education working at his father's ice company where he delivered and carved ice sculptures for parties.
After college, he earned a Juris Doctorate in law from St. John's, " Class of 1961 ". He joined the Army Reserves from 1961-1967 and during those years he also served as the Alderman for the 130th District of Black Rock. He later became the Chief Prosecuting Atty. for the Golden Hill St. Court House in Bpt., Ct and later as the Chief States Atty. for the State of Ct. until 1991 when he retired from public service.
Not only did Bob Practice law he taught it at Sacred Heart Univ., University of Bpt. and Housatonic Community College. After retirement Bob enjoyed his vacation home in Tuscon, Arizona and running his own oyster company on Long Island Sound. His many hobbies included gardening, especially growing large pumpkins for his grandchildren, building model boats and playing cards with his friends on Fridays. He was also a great history buff, enjoyed watching jeopardy and loved his N.Y. Yankees. Bob will always be remembered for his strong opinions and his constant teasing.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol Goula, his son Christian of Norwich, Ct., his daughter Jennifer Goggin ( Garrett ) and his four cherished grandchildren, Andrew of Stamford, Ct.,Christopher, Jack and Aine of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, his favorite cousin Eleanor Williamson of Florida and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:15 in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center and at 11 am at Notre Dame of Easton Church, Morehouse Hwy, Easton, Ct. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 pm in the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Shriner's Hospital for Children.
