Obituary of Thomas Joseph Bonomo

Dr. Thomas Joseph Bonomo, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, died January 2 in Bridgeport, CT, following a long illness. He was 89.

Tom was a former president of the Suffolk County Dental Society and had a practice in East Northport, N.Y., for 45 years. He graduated from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1961. Tom was active in the Xi Psi Phi international dental fraternity, and served as national president. In addition, he was an editor of the Suffolk County Dental Society magazine. Tom mentored young dentists his entire career.

Tom and his wife of 65 years Marion "Lorrie" Bonomo raised a family of five children in Northport, N.Y They were active members of St. Anthony of Padua Church in East Northport, where Tom helped start the parish council and served as an extraordinary minister.

Tom was born Nov. 10, 1935, in New York's Greenwich Village. His parents, Margaret and Salvatore, were immigrants from Italy who valued education. He attended Xavier High School in Manhattan and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., where he graduated in 1957.

He and Lorrie met in Long Beach, N.Y., where their families spent the summer. They were married in 1959 in Forest Hills, NY. Over the decades, that family of five children grew to include 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Tom and Lorrie treasured family time, especially when the entire family gathered at the Jersey Shore for a week.

Tom was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan who adopted the New York Mets when the Dodgers left New York. He was a jazz aficionado and collected wines in his basement cellar. But more than that, he was a devoted husband, beloved Dad, and grandfather, Nonno.

In 2022, Tom and Lorrie moved to The Watermark at 3030 Park, where he made many friends and enjoyed the activities.

In addition to Lorrie, Tom is survived by his children Mary Ann (Kevin) Donovan, Tom Jr. (Katy) Bonomo, Kathy (Bob) O'Brien, Michael Bonomo, and Stephen (Chantra) Bonomo; grandchildren Kathryn (Brian) Hook, John (Sara) Donovan, Alex, Margot, Tom III, Christina and , Jacqueline Bonomo, Michael (Shannon) O'Brien, Matthew (Stephanie) O'Brien, Daniel (Colleen) O'Brien, Claire O'Brien, Maggie (Mike) Baroody, and Laura Bonomo; great-grandchildren Charlie and Emma Hook, Lily Donovan, Ezekiel, Emmet, and Alex O'Brien; and sister Carol Albright.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 5th, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Lesko Funeral Home, located at 1209 Post Road, Fairfield, Connecticut.
