Agnes (Aggie) DeRosa, 85, passed away peacefully in her home in Venice, Florida, on August 7, succumbing to a multi-year battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. Born May 20, 1939, to Joseph and Veronica (Norco) Kranyik, Aggie grew up in the Tunxis Hill neighborhood of Fairfield, Connecticut. The third of seven children, she was proceeded in death by brothers Ray, James (Jimmy), and Joseph (Jujy) Kranyik, and sisters Beatrice Kapitan, and Joanne Ruthven. She is survived by her sister Mary Anne Baker of Beacon Falls, as well as her husband of 68 years, Day DeRosa Sr., her sons Day Jr. of Milford, Connecticut, and Douglas DeRosa of Monona, Wisconsin, and her two grandsons, Enzo and Gino DeRosa of Monona, Wisconsin. Aggie and Day met as teenagers — a date arranged by Aggie's friend because Day had a car and she wanted Day to chauffeur her and her boyfriend for a night out. Aggie and Day married at ages 16 and 18, respectively, and remained married until her passing. Day was her lifelong partner and he tirelessly and lovingly cared for her through her final days. Aggie worked at Grand Union supermarkets for the majority of her working life — first in Stratford, then as a cashier for 25 years at the Newtown Grand Union. She declined numerous offers to move into management, preferring the social engagement of cashiering. She knew just about everyone in Newtown and people would wait to be in her checkout line just to talk with her. When her and Day moved to Suffield, Connecticut, she later worked at Stop & Shop in Enfield, where she was proud of her work both in the office and as a cashier. Aggie was a woman of impeccable style and taste in all that she did. Talented at sewing, macrame, and knitting, she always looked dashing, often in the clothes of her own making. Her home decor was always artful and often construed as the work of a professional. She had a bright and welcoming personality and a quick, keen sense of humor. Aggie loved music, sports cars, driving fast, and road-tripping, making numerous trips from Connecticut to Wisconsin to attend dance and costume parties with her son and friends. A celebration of Aggie's life will be held Sunday, September 8, 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Good Old Days Pizza and Cocktail Den, 19 Main Street, Newtown, Connecticut. Aggie will be entombed in Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, Connecticut, alongside her parents and many other members of the Kranyik family.
