Obituary of Joyce C. Anderson

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Corder Anderson on Thursday, June 20th at the age of 85.

Joyce fought a courageous and lengthy battle with cognitive and physical challenges due to the debilitating disease of dementia. Joyce died peacefully in the loving embrace of her daughter before entering her new life with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Joyce was born on November 30, 1938 in Clarksburg, WV, to Wendell (Ted) Corder and Hazel (Peg) McClain. She was raised in Salem, WV, where she spent time with her grandparents, William Dallas and Ida Blanch McClain, on the family farm along with several aunts and uncles.

Joyce graduated from Salem College in 1960 with a degree in education. During college, Joyce spent summers working at both the Pentagon and the Marine Corps Base Quantico. In her senior year, Joyce was crowned 'Miss Salem College 1960.' While in college, Joyce met her husband, Stuart Anderson. They were married in August 1959 and shared almost sixty-five years together. After graduating, the couple moved to Stuart's hometown of Fairfield, CT where they raised three children and formed lifelong friendships in the community.

Throughout her life, Joyce worked as a model for SNET and a CT travel magazine, a substitute teacher, and a medical receptionist. Her favorite job, however, was teaching young children about Jesus during Sunday School at First Church Congregational in Fairfield, CT. Joyce was highly artistic and created beautiful flower arrangements for dinners, bridal showers, wedding receptions, and friends and families' special occasions. She also designed cakes for school fundraisers. During the Christmas season, Joyce volunteered for the Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival where she designed holiday wreaths and trees to benefit local charities. Joyce was a member of Black Rock Congregational Church, the Junior Women's Club of Fairfield, the Greenfield Hill Garden Club, the Patterson Club, the Women's 9-Hole League at Carl Dickman Par Three and H. Smith Richardson Golf Course.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. It was during those moments that her heart was most full. Joyce will forever be remembered as a loving mother, wife, sister and friend to those in and outside her family.

Joyce is survived by: her husband, Stuart C. Anderson, of Fairfield, CT; her brother- and sister-in-law, John and Patricia Anderson, of Trumbull, CT and Sarasota, FL; her three children, Dyckman F. Anderson, and his wife, Wendy F. Anderson, of Fairfield, CT, Kristi C. Anderson, of Monroe, CT, and Heather M. Anderson-Noonan, and her husband, Ashley A. Noonan, of Fairfield, CT; her three grandchildren, Stephanie A. Britt, and her husband, Austin B. Britt, of St. Augustine, FL, Lindsey M. Anderson, of Fairfield, CT, and Turner Zerbst Noonan, of Norwalk, CT; and her three great grandchildren, Beckham A. Britt, Blakely J. Britt, and Bowen W. Britt.
