Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elaine Braus, age 95, most recently of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024. Elaine graduated as a chemistry major from Hunter College and then married Harold, the love her life. Together, they moved to Norwalk in 1962 where they raised their three children, Ira, Susan, and Jessica. She began teaching at Rice School in Stamford in 1967 and continued to teach third grade in the Stamford school system at Toquam and then Springdale schools. She retired for four months to care for her husband Harold until his death in 2006. She came out of retirement and pivoted to teaching English as a second language at St. Basil College and Adult Education in the Stamford School system. At the age of 82, she was recognized as teacher of the year. She ultimately retired at age 89. She loved teaching and was passionate about developing new curricula to help her students succeed. She was a mother to all her students. Elaine enjoyed concerts, plays, dance recitals and loved entertaining her friends and family with macrobiotic feasts. Her norimaki platters were legendary. She loved to read and especially enjoyed her book club. She loved her family and her family loved her. Her drive, tenacity, and work ethic were inspirational to her children and grandchildren. She created camp moma=papa where all her grandchildren attended at one time or another. She is survived by her children, Ira Braus, Susan Braus, and her husband, Lindsay Rand, Jessica Braus, and her husband, Dan Glass; her grandchildren who she treasured, Emily Rand, and her husband, Seth Werlin, Alison Rand, Sam Glass, and his wife, Nicola Glass, Becca Glass, and her partner, Matt Clark, Alex Glass, and his partner, Brianna Kurtain; and her great grandchildren, Cecil, Naomi, Orie, and Henry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of your choice.
