Obituary of Robert L. Muir

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert L Muir passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Norwalk Hospital. Robert was born on February 18, 1937 in Winooski, VT to the late David and Yvonne (LeClair) Muir. Shortly after graduating high school, Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard and then chose an assignment to the 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, NC where he spent two years and completed 21 jumps. Seeking employment, Bob moved to Fairfield, CT where he soon became employed at Remington Arms in Bridgeport. After 24 years of service, Bob retired and moved back home to Vermont. He spent his days at a local elementary school where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Bob the custodian". Once retired, for the 2nd time, he did what Bob liked to do. He went to movies, went out for pizza and creamies, flea markets, fairs/festivals, day trips, and living life to the fullest through simple pleasures. Collecting things brought Bob much happiness, especially baseball, movie, & music memorabilia to name a few. Bob was loving, gentle, and kind with an uncanny ability to make you laugh. He never ceased to impress us with a casual story about his past or someplace he visited or something he did. He was quite the adventurer (who knew!) Bob's memory will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Paula Finnegan, and her husband, Stephen; his son, Scott Muir, and his longtime companion, Helena Drury; granddaughters, Nicole Garaffa, and her husband, Tim, Ashley Muthersbaugh, and her companion, Julien, Taylor Sekelsky, and her husband, Jake, Carolyn Robinson, and her husband, Dale, Megan Muir, Tiffany Drury and Felicia Drury; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Bradley Muir, and his wife, Cathy; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Carole Muir. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his siblings, David Muir, Jr., Richard (Dickey) Muir, and Barbara Bergevin (Muir). A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield, CT 06825. Full Military Honors will be observed following his Mass. A Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weaver Street, Winooski, VT 05404.
