Obituary of John F. Takacs, Sr.

John F. Takacs, Sr., age 93, of West Haven, beloved husband of the late Shirley Heyer Takacs, passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital on Thursday, May 16, 2024, after a brief illness. John was born on May 7, 1931 in Bridgeport to Hungarian immigrants and was a graduate of Milford High School Class of 1949. He was a Marine Corps Veteran in the 1st Marine Division, having proudly and courageously served in the Korean War. John went on to work at Sikorsky Aircraft as an electronic coordinator supervisor for 42 years. He had also worked with the West Haven Police Department as a part time policeman. John was a member of the West Haven Yacht Club and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to the beach with his girlfriend, Grace DelStritto, and the dogs, his beloved Peanut and Chaz. John belonged to the American Legion Post 196 in Milford, where he enjoyed Friday afternoons with family and friends. He was also a long time member of the Woodmont Fire Company and enjoyed going to their dinners and events. John's memory will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Gary Takacs, of Milford and John Takacs, Jr., of Gulf Breeze, FL; grandchildren, Eric Takacs, of West Haven, Juston Takacs, and his wife, Margaret, Chelsea McGehee, and her husband, Billy, and Bianca Foley, and her husband, Brad, of Gulf Breeze, FL; and great-grandchildren, Tucker, Sawyer, and Hunter Foley, and Blake and Beck McGehee, all of Gulf Breeze, FL. In addition to his wife, Shirley, John was predeceased by his parents, James and Mary Takacs; a brother, James Takacs; and a sister, Mary Sharp. John's family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the West Haven VA Hospital for the care they provided for their Dad. A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. directly at Lawncroft Cemetery, 1740 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Pius X Outreach, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, CT 06824.
