Obituary of Frank William Dobler, III

Frank William Dobler III passed away in the comfort of his home alongside his loving family on Saturday, December 8 in Topsham, Maine.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Frank and Irene Dobler, Frank grew up in Fairfield, where he graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1967. He was also awarded a diploma in Automobile Mechanics that year from J.M. Wright Technical School in Stamford. He lived in Trumbull and Monroe before retiring to Sebasticook Lake in Newport, Maine.

Frank was married 48 years to his amazingly patient wife Francine Dobler. They adored each other and remained mushy to the very end. He will be incredibly missed by his daughter Kristen Dobler Stewart of Topsham, “son” William Stewart and his grandchildren: William and Joy, who want everyone to know he was the best Pop ever. He is also survived by his brother David Dobler and his wife Laura of Oxford, CT, sister Darlene Dobler-Palin and her husband Harold Palin of Monroe, CT, an uncle, many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews and a grandnephew.

Frank had an exceptional talent for home design and building. In 1992 he graduated from Porter and Chester Institute in Stratford, where he studied Architectural and Civil Design/Drafting. He worked in construction most of his life, where he could turn the most basic house into something incredible. Detailed crown molding and magnificent mantles made him a true artisan of his craft.

Frank played as hard as he worked and knew how to have a good time. He loved cars and especially enjoyed bringing his ‘78 Pace Car to Corvette shows. He’d never turn down a weekend ride on his Harley or time spent on a jet ski or snowmobile. An avid deer hunter, he looked forward to Novembers in Vermont with his father-in-law Douglas McLain and countless friends. 

Frank and Francine’s time in Maine included some of the best years of their lives together. The lake house was a place where bald eagles soared, grandkids splashed and fun was had. Frank loved sharing boat rides with his family and friends – these wonderful moments will be missed the most. 

Though Frank lost the battle with Wild-Type Amyloidosis, he valiantly refused to ever let it get the best of his body or mind. His strength, determination and even his stubbornness ensured he lived life to the fullest – the way he wanted to. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. His family would like to thank the amazing doctors and nurses who guided us through this difficult journey. In particular, Dr. Michael Givertz and his incredible team – especially Amanda and Lisa.

In true Frank fashion and in lieu of flowers, please consider helping him “stick it” to this horrible disease, which has no cure, by donating to the Boston University School of Medicine’s Amyloid Research Fund.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 19 at 11 am in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Ct with burial to follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
