Marie Perkins Lederer, a longtime resident of the Stepney section of Monroe and devoted wife to the late Robert D. Lederer, passed away in her home on November 19, 2018.
In addition to her beloved husband, Marie was predeceased by her daughter, Kate P. Lederer, and siblings, Kathleen P. Heimstra, Helen P. Kaechele, and Donald E. Perkins. She will be remembered by her nieces and nephews.
Born in Danbury, Marie graduated from Bassick High School in 1939 and Junior College of Bridgeport in 1941. She served the Town of Monroe as the Director of Social Services for 27 years until her retirement in 1989. Marie was the original Trustee of the Edith Wheeler Memorial Trust, a significant benefactor of the new Monroe Public Library and ongoing provider of generous scholarships for graduating Masuk High School students. For seventy years, Marie worked in blood services for the Red Cross. In 1979, Marie and her husband Robert were selected by both the State of Connecticut and Red Cross as the Volunteer Couple of the year.
Marie's memory will be embraced for her deep devotion to her family, friends, and community, as well as, her terrific sense of humor.
