Obituary of Rose M. Hyde
Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rose M. Hyde, wife of the late Richard T. Hyde, passed away on January 17, 2023.
Rose was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 20, 1935 to the late Rose and John Dorin. Rose graduated from Roger Ludlow High School where she met the love of her life, Richard. Married in 1956, Rose and Richard settled in Fairfield where they raised four children. While Dad worked three jobs, our Mom had the unenviable task of looking after the "gang of four." Before we attended school formally, Mom would put out small desks loaded with books and ring an obnoxiously loud bell to let us know that "school" was in session, where she would teach us lessons.
Mom was a soft touch, which we took full advantage of, hearing the oft used phrase, "wait until your father gets home!" No one could bake her famous chocolate chip cookies, even though she shared the recipe. We always felt she purposely left out some key ingredients of the recipe, so no one could top her. For some odd reason, Mom was also deadly at shooting free throws, although her form left a lot to be desired. Somehow, she would always win at cards, and try as we might, we could never figure out how she was cheating. She loved to bet on football games and would win more times than not, although she didn't know a football from a basketball. Mom also loved to volunteer at the Thomas Merton House and play Old Maid with her grandchildren. Our Mom and friend will be truly missed.
Rose leaves behind her four children, Sheila Takacs, and her husband, Joe, Susan Hyde, Richard Hyde, and his wife, Jacqueline, and Thomas Hyde, and his wife, Lynne. She also leaves behind her nine grandchildren and one great grandson to cherish her memory, Joseph Takacs, Ian, Nicholas, and Alex Thompson, Brittany & Richard Hyde, Jonathan, Katherine, and Daniel Hyde; and her great-grandson, Nathaniel Takacs. Rose was predeceased by her infant granddaughter, Kelly Ann Thompson. She is also survived by her brother, Ken Dorin, and sister-in-law, Peggy Dorin, as well as many nieces and nephews, along with her best buddy of almost 80 years, Doris Torok.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. directly at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield, CT 06825. Entombment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, Mom would have loved donations be directed to Saint Jude Children's Hospital as children always had a way of touching her heart, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or by visiting, www.stjude.org/donate.
