Obituary of Nancy Payne Paxton

Nancy Payne Paxton, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on October 5, 2022 at the age of 97. She was born in Troy, New York to Doris and Smitty Payne. She attended Emma Willard (Troy), Rowland Hall and Art school in Salt Lake City. Nancy was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for over 70 years, serving as the "matriarch of the flower guild" and Altar Guild during her tenure. Nancy was passionate about her flower arranging. Nancy loved to make arrangements for many events at church. As a member of Fairfield Garden Club, she entered many juried flower shows including the National Cathedral in D.C. Her children are very proud of all of her accomplishments. Nancy generously volunteered her time with many organizations over the years. Notably, Bridgeport Ladies Charitable Society, she worked with the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County (Wonder Workshop, Art Goes to School), Visiting Nurse Service of Connecticut, Fairfield Garden Club, American Red Cross, Mill Hill School PTA. Nancy was a watercolor artist and enjoyed sharing this passion with many dear friends and exhibited them locally. Her children have enjoyed displaying many of her paintings and will always cherish them. Many friends display her paintings as well. Nancy was a former member of The Fairfield County Hunt Club, The Fairfield Beach Club, and Pequot Yacht Club. But most of all, Nancy loved her family and was proud to be a grandmother and great- grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Don Paxton. She is survived by her children, Carol Esposito, of Branford, Pamela Maria, and her husband, George, of Portland, Maine, William Paxton, of Chatham, MA, Julia Seeber, and her husband, Kemp, of Stratford; grandchildren, Christina Esposito, Catherine Esposito, Hannah Paxton, Emma Paxton, Kate Paxton, and David Seeber; great grandchildren, Rebecca, Adelaide and Joleigh Gerard. She is also survived by her beloved nieces, Nancy Payne, Susan Pickering, Janice Payne, and Sherye Trinkner. Special people to mention and thank are her companion and caregivers, especially Jennifer, Sophie, and Rudy. You all enhanced her life beyond words and whom we can never thank enough. Thank you to our Hospice nurses, both Sara and Andrew. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Saturday Oct. 29th at 11:00 a.m. with a reception immediately following in the Parish Hall.
