Raymond Joseph Hageney, Jr., 91, of Fairfield, CT, passed peacefully among family at his home on December 20, 2021.
He was a man of few words but generously giving in sincerity and warmth. Born February 10, 1930 in Manhattan, NY and raised in Woodside, Queens, NY by parents Raymond and Margaret Hageney. Survived by Barbara Ellen Hageney of Elmhurst, Queens, NY, his energetic, loving and devoted spouse of 60 years. Also survived by his beloved children Ellen Lewis, Jen Kahn (Chip), Richard (Victoriya), Trish Naidich (Jason) and Dan (Jennie). Also survived by his beautiful grandchildren Ray, Sam, Jake, Nate, Aidan, Wyatt, Daniel, Emma, Eli, Theo, Cat, Henry, Tate, Casey, Tess and great grandchild Althea. Predeceased by sister Joan Berner and brother Jerry and survived by sister Maureadh Dimarco.
Ray attended Power Memorial Academy High School in Manhattan, NY. After serving honorably in the US Army at the age of 17 he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Iona College in 1960. He retired as a Senior Systems Analyst after 34 years with IBM at the age of 58. Upon retirement, Ray found himself enjoying 30 plus years of beachside comfort in Fairfield, CT where he cherished reading countless books and spending time with his family. While in Fairfield, Ray was active and dedicated to his Catholic faith as evidenced by his service to Saint Anthony of Padua Church.
A man of deep Catholic faith he was most honored and proud to recollect his service to the Lord as an Alter Server at the famed Saint Patrick Cathedral in Manhattan for 6 years. But in truth his legacy will always be sustained in remembrance of his dedication to self-responsibility and love of family.
A private celebration of Ray’s life was held on December 23, 2021 at St Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield, CT. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made in Ray’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
