Obituary of Giovanna Galbo
Giovanna Galbo passed away on Friday, December 3rd, 2021. She recently celebrated her 83rd birthday with her loved ones and will be dearly missed by all of those around her.
Giovanna was born in Sciara, Sicily on September 27th, 1938 to Vincenzo and Rosa Mangiafridda. She met the love of her life, Santino Galbo while he was visiting his family in Sicily. From the moment they met the two were inseparable and their love story began. They married in 1953 and began their future together in New York where they raised their two boys, Loreto and Vincent.
Giovanna and Santo began their sixty-seven year marriage in The Bronx, NY. Her full-time job was taking care of the “three boys.” She was the glue that kept the Galbo household together and the olive oil that kept the family running smoothly. Santino was the first person to say that his business ventures were successful because of the love and support of Giovanna at home.
After spending over forty years in The Bronx, the two moved to Norwalk, CT where they spent their remaining years enjoying life to the fullest. Giovanna loved travelling with her husband and attending Broadway shows. She was an excellent bowler and was known as the Queen of the Bowling Alley. Giovanna and Santo enjoyed trying new restaurants on the weekends and hosted the weekly Friday card night with their friends. She was the neighborhood card shark and was always down to play a round of Briscola or Scopa.
Giovanna was the ultimate cook, hosting Sunday dinners and making sure everyone was well fed. She poured her love and soul into her cooking, and it showed by the full stomachs and smiling faces on those around her dinner table. It wasn’t a holiday if Giovanna’s lasagna did not make an appearance. Cooking was one of the many ways Giovanna showed her love to her family and friends.
Her family was her life. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she found time to attend every birthday, graduation, and other important events. She always had a smile on her face and nothing made her happier than seeing her loved ones succeed.
Giovanna is survived her two sons; Loreto (Larry) and wife Donna of Southport, CT, and Vincenzo (Vincent) and wife Diane of Park Ridge, NJ, five grandchildren; Anthony and wife Molly of Fairfield, CT, Michael and wife Samantha of Tuckahoe, NY, Kristina and husband Thomas of Fairfield, CT, Vincent and his wife Jordan of Manhattan, NY, and Nicholas and fiancé Jaclyn Battaglia of Manhattan, NY; five great-grandchildren; Amelia, Martino, Aria, Joseph, and Mia; sister-in law Nuccia Mangiafridda, and leaves behind many adoring nieces and nephews. Giovanna was predeceased by her husband Santino Galbo and brothers Vincenzo and Loreto Mangiafridda.
