Susan Richards DeLeon, Age 72, was a long-time resident of Fairfield. Died on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania to John Charles Richards and Margaret Qubick and Stepfather Robert Qubick.
Susan was active in Fairfield politics for several years. She served with distinction for four consecutive terms on the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting between 1991-1999. She was first elected to the RTM in 1991 where she represented what was then the Eight District. When the town’s voting districts were reapportioned in 1993, she was elected and re-elected to represent her constituency, in the Sixth District. Among her committee assignments for four terms was membership on the prestigious Legislation & Administration Committee, she served for two of those terms as Vice Chairman. She also served a short term as a replacement on the Finance Committee. She was also elected Justice of the Peace and had been a member of the Fairfield Republican Town Committee from 1990-1999. She volunteered for the Red Cross and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Sullivan/McKinney Elder Care Center. Susan volunteered at St. Vincent’s Hospital for 8 years in the Short Stay Department, which she loved. She cared deeply for her Short Stay Family and the patients, especially any patient dealing with lung cancer. Susan was an avid reader, in her younger days loved traveling and gardening. One of her favorite hobbies for years was working on her Doll House, But, most of all she loved to dance.
Survivors include her sisters Ruth Jennings and Beth Beaudry (Michael.) Nieces Katelin Flemming (Shawn) great nieces Sophie and Chelsea Flemming. Sarah Beaudry Bertolino (Mat) great nephew Ronan Bertolio, Brittany Beaudry Koziupa (Andrew) and niece Emily Jennings. Her favorite Sister cousin Teddi Esposito. And her sister-in-law Susan E. DeLeon. Her Loving, loyal and trusted friends Kathy Buzel, Kathy Murphy, Judy Gordon, Kathy Mastronardi, Betty Sinko, Darlene Verdone, Marjorie and Jim Pickerstein, Elvy Stepinoff, Jim Perez and Charlene Lebo. Susan’s Short Stay Family Michele Harper, Ann Barto, Karen Viores and Susan Anthony. Forever in her heart “Spencer”.
