Obituary of Mary Klaff
Mary Babis Klaff, beloved wife of the late Gabriel Klaff , Sr. passed to be with our Lord on the evening of May 13, 2021.
Mary met the love of her life and married in 1948. Gabriel courted Mary at her childhood home in Stratford, relentlessly asking her out until she agreed to a date. In 1951, Mary and Gabriel bought a parcel of land in Fairfield and together built their family home. Mary’s career was raising the seven children that she had with her husband. It was more than a full time job taking care of the children and their home. There are fond memories of the family vacations, which consisted of loading up 7 kids in the station wagon and staying at a cabin in Vermont or New Hampshire. Mary loved children and family, so much so that after raising 7 of her own, she took on caring for the children of local families.
Mary was a woman of strong faith. She religiously remembered everyone in her daily prayers. She will be remembered as a person that always put others before herself.Later in life, Mary enjoyed watching game shows on television and reading the newspaper in the early morning before beginning her day.
Mary is survived by loving children, David P. Klaff of Fairfield, Lawrence and Karen Klaff of Fairfield, James Klaff of Florida and Veronica Klaff of Fairfield and daughter in laws Bonnie Nichols and Kathy Klaff; her cherished grandchildren, Tiffany Klaff, Michael Klaff, William David Nichols-Klaff, Brett Tynes, Gabriel Klaff III and Heather Klaff. In addition to beloved husband, Mary was predeceased by beloved children Judith Targowski, Mary Ann Klaff-Brown and Gabriel Klaff, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, with Father Sam Kachuba officiating. Friends may visit one half hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
