Tante Hedwig always lit up with the biggest smile when she saw us. She and Siggy visited our Mom (Martha) in Eddyville frequently especially after Dad passed. It was a great pleasure to see her and Siggy pull into the driveway when we were up visiting and a great comfort to hear Mom's excitement when she would call and tell us Hedwig and Siggy visited on weekends we weren't there.
In later years after the kids came along, she was always sure to ask about each and every one.
Many good stories and meals were shared in that Eddyville kitchen. Memories I will always have.
She was a shining example of true faith and happiness and an inspiration.

Tante Hedwig arranged for her Pastor to baptize me in the lake near her house & hosted a lovely luncheon for us in celebration.
She was always kind, supportive, loving.
She had a humble servant’s heart & lived her life as a true testament of her faith in God.
It was a wonderful experience and I am eternally grateful.

We all loved Oma and the beauty she found and created for herself everywhere. Whether it be with creating beautiful clothing, sheets/duvets, knitting, or her beloved flowers. One of my favorite memories was every time I left her house she would walk out with me and show me all the new and beautiful flowers that she planted/bloomed in her garden, she knew each and every one. Her garden flourished wherever she went, the city, her flower boxes on the apartments/churches, different houses, inside her home, etc. She inspired me and my brother to get into gardening. Something I especially never expected out of him. Specific flowers I see will always remind me of my Oma.

Here are some memories we have of Hedwig.
We feel her calling in life was to stand in the gap for her younger siblings and not only to be a wife and mother.
Her training for her secondary calling started when she six years old. When our mother needed help caring for another new born baby, Hedwig stepped right in and loved every minute of it. Also at six she cooked her first family dinner.Standing on a chair, in front of a hot stove, following directions from our mother, the food was ready when everyone came hope form the fields.
At 15 yrs of age, being terrified, she took turns outside our covered coach, driving the horses as everyone fled the Russians.
Arriving in the West, she worked for a farmer to provide milk for us on a daily basis.Getting up at 4a to milk the farmers cows.
As teenagers, as we came knocking at her door, whether day or night, she always welcomed us with open arms and heart.
For each holiday she sewed matching dresses for the three of us, Lilli, Renate and for me.
Is it any wonder that we bonded with Hedwig as most kids would with their mother?
There are many more thing we recount with each other about Hedwig. Some were funny and others instructional.
We are so grateful God for-ordained for Hedwig to fill the gap. We are eternally grateful to Hedwig for being there for us.
We will miss her very much,
Lilli (Renate) and Hildegard
