Obituary of Roosevelt Johnson
Roosevelt Johnson, age 59, of Stratford, beloved husband of Mona Fuller Johnson, passed away on June 14, 2018 after a brief illness.
In addition to his devoted wife Mona, Roosevelt's memory will be embraced by his children Shermain Johnson (37) and Tevin Johnson (27), both of SC, LisaMarie Johnson (21) and Elisha Johnson (14) both of Stratford; one daughter-in-law, Jilita Johnson, of SC; one cherished grandchild, Shermya Johnson (9) of SC; and numerous relatives including aunts, uncles, sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, mother-in-laws, father-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by several family members including Thelma J McGee, Flossie Gardner, Loretta Heyward, Samuel “Toy” McGee Sr., Henry “Bubba” McGee Sr., and Walter Daniel Fuller.
The son of Willy J Scott and Reatha J Bell, Roosevelt was born in Sumter, SC, and lived much of his life in Connecticut. He was raised by his uncle and aunt, whom he considered his parents, Samuel and Thelma McGee. Although he was an only child, Roosevelt grew up with a multitude of cousins, whom he considered his siblings. Roosevelt was a talented mechanic by trade until the end of his life. He also drove tracker trailer for Swift and worked for Valley Container in Bridgeport, CT.
Roosevelt was very passionate about his family and wanted the best for all of his children. He would do anything for them even when his life had its difficulties. A kind, caring, and intelligent man, Roosevelt was compassionate and loyal to family and friends. He was outgoing, sometimes outspoken, and often funny/comical. A jack of all trades, Roosevelt enjoyed working on cars, fishing, being outdoors, playing cards, and getting to know people. He touched many people throughout his life and will be lovingly remembered by all who came to know him.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday June 23rd from 2 to 4 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. At 4 PM a prayer service will be officiated by Pastor Charles Jackson. His interment will be private.
