Fairfield High School. Fitts House. 1987-1991. It was during those formative years, back when MTV played music videos and the Berlin Wall was standing and cell phones were the luxury of the elite (and the size of bricks) that this colt was becoming a Mustang. And it was then that Mrs. Kolaric, my homeroom teacher, was a kind, patient presence in my life. She, along with others at FHS, planted the seeds of kindness, diligence and responsibility that continue to bear fruit. To steal a line from Janet Jackson during those halcyon days, I will “miss you much,” Mrs. Kolaric. R.I.P.

I am sad to hear of Miss Huston's passing. I was her student in the "how to do a term paper" portion of my very tough Freshman Honors English class. Miss Huston had very tough demands, but they were clear and within reach of a hard-working student. She also joked about my very poor penmanship, and her accurate remarks led me to convert a study hall into a typing course. In the end, I emerged a competent writer (for a Freshman) and excellent typist before everyone typed. I am glad that I had her as a teacher and wish her family comfort during their grief.
