Obituary of Henry J. Sodaro

Henry J. Sodaro, age 87, devoted husband of Marie Calise Sodaro, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2018.

In addition to Marie, his loving wife of 66 years, Henry's memory will be embraced by his children, Ronald Sodaro and his wife Susan, of Milford, Robert Sodaro, of Richmond, VA, Russell Sodaro and his partner, Mary Ellen Peloso, of Fairfield, Lisa Sodaro, of Seymour; his cherished grandchildren, Salvatore and Antonio Sodaro, Dylan and Kayla Sodaro, Joshua, Zachary, Daniel, Angel, and Jacob Bleggi; one adored great-grandson, Zaine Sodaro; his sister-in-law, Gloria Franco, of New Canaan; many nieces, nephews, and close cousins.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Henry resided in Norwalk before moving to Fairfield in 1962. He graduated from Pratt Institute with his degree in Electrical Engineering. While in school, he met and fell in love with his future wife Marie, whom he married in 1952. During his career, Henry worked for Machlett Laboratory, Philips Medical-NorthAmerican, and Precise Optics in Long Island before retiring. Possessing an unwavering moral compass and exceptional work ethic, he was a real contributor and loyal employee for each company he served.

Henry had outstanding leadership skills, a terrific sense of humor and enjoyed staying involved in his community. He was a longtime parishioner and active volunteer at Saint Pius X Church, where he helped with many church activities including as an adult leader for the Boy Scout troop. Along with Marie, he assisted with the Town of Fairfield polling stations for many years. He was an avid reader of nonfiction and especially liked to read out loud for others. He was a talented tennis player who enjoyed a competitive game.

Staying continuously engaged with his family and friends, he liked knowing what was going on in each of their lives. Henry would be ready to offer his assistance and did so without condition when needed. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Henry touched many individuals throughout his life and will be remembered with great fondness.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will take place on Friday at 10:15 AM in the funeral home and 11 AM in Saint Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. A reception in Henry's honor will immediately follow in the church's Community Room. A private interment will be held at a later date at Assumption Cemetery in Westport.
