Obituary of Szilveszter Jando

Szilveszter Laszlo Jando, age 88, of Stratford, beloved husband of Elizabeth Cseh Jando, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Born and raised in Pecs, Hungary, son of the late Vendel and Anna Beres Jando, Mr. Jando served in the Hungarian Army and later emigrated to the United States in 1959 and had lived in Stratford for 50 years. He had worked for the Warners/Warnaco Co. of Bridgeport for many years until his retirement. In his youth, Szilveszter played soccer, he enjoyed the outdoors while fishing and hunting. Szilveszter liked playing chess and doing crossword puzzles. He was very proud of his Hungarian heritage and most of all cherished the times that he spent with his family. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed. In addition to Elizabeth, his wife of 62 years, survivors include his son, Szilveszter C. Jando and his wife Cynthia of Naugatuck, granddaughters Christina and Kaitlin Jando, a sister Gabriella Bedi of Hungary, a dear friend Elsa Nyari, two sisters in law, two brothers in law as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 am in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of service.
