Obituary of Helen Verras

Helen Zogopoulos Verras, age 84, of Monroe, wife of the late Christos Verras, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018.

Born in Patras, Greece, daughter of the late Konstantinos and Victoria Asimakoupoulou Zogopoulos. Helen arrived in the United States in 1958, living in Bridgeport and Monroe for most of her life. She enjoyed dancing, baking, singing and gardening. Most of all Helen cherished the times spent with her grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her sons George and Gus (Deborah) of Fairfield, and Andrew of Milford, along with daughter Maria Filippakis of Bridgeport (Peter). In addition to her four children, Helen leaves behind her precious grandchildren: Christopher, Cara and Brandon Verras and Manoli, Niko, Christina and Despina Filippakis, along with her great-granddaughter, Marianna Filippakis. Additionally, Helen leaves behind her beloved best friend and sister Effie Valakas of Monroe, and brothers Pandeli, Thanase (Anna) and Nick (Nikki) of Greece. Helen also leaves behind treasured nephew Gus Valakas his wife Rachael, and their daughter Olivia, in addition to other nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her brothers George and Christos.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 27 at 10 am directly at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave. Bridgeport with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5-8 pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center. The Trisagion service will be held at 7 pm.
