Dear Kelly,
I don’t even know where to begin as writing this makes it even more real. I had the pleasure to teach with you and will never forget your beautiful smile. There were many stressful times during our time together, and every time I went into your classroom to vent, you would give me that big smile of yours with that twinkle in your eye. Your squinting smile was always so contagious that it made me smile and feel better. You will always be remembered for that! May you rest peacefully. I know heaven has gained an angel!

Kelly did everything with style. Whether she was working out or having a glass of wine on the beach, she was just perfectly dressed. And boy did we work out and drink lots of wine. Beyond her fashionista sense, she always wore that beautiful smile. You knew the conversation took a fun turn when Kelly smiled so brightly that her eyes squinted....Oh, how we'll miss that smile and really, really funny conversations.
Big family beach conversations can be frenetic and disjointed. I will remember Kelly as someone who could make you feel like you were the only one in the room. It's so clear that she got that calm sense and clear focus from her mom...and the devious fun side from her dad; and a bit of this from her mom too. Conor and Jack have that same ability to engage a conversation and laugh - those boys are special young men. While our laughs and squints aren't so bright today, I hope we'll find this soon enough. Kelly would want us to squint.
Blessings to you Tom and Julie, Conor and Jack. Our hearts are with you.

My heart is broken for our family, for her nearest and dearest. This loss is tragic and unfair. I've experienced a lot of death in the past several years - multiple shining gorgeous people who were taken far too young. I've been asking my beloved dead to guide her passage to the other side, to assist with her too-soon reunion with Gramma Jeanne and all our ancestors. To hold her in gentle rest, free of pain.
I will carry my memories of her close with me always. Kelly was the absolute sweetest. Her brilliant easy smile always felt warm and comforting to me. Kelly will forever be my kind and funny little cousin. I am devastated that her adulthood was taken from her and all of us in this way.
The pain of Kelly's immediate family is incomprehensible. I am hoping that you four feel held strongly enough by the rest of us that it can be safe to fall apart, to find healing in the depth of your love for her and each other. You gave her a beautiful life and it was obvious how much she cherished her family. There are no words, as you know, but we all want to help you to hold the unimaginably broken pieces for as long as you need, forever. I am always here for nonjudgmental listening about your grief. I've been lighting candles for her and the family every night and will continue to do so.
I am so devastated to not be able to attend the services and be with family right now. I am recovering from an immobilizing back issue and am not able to travel at this time. I hope that you can feel my love from the west coast. This is the longest night of the year and I'm praying that we all hold each other close and with so much tenderness.

Dear McKeon Family~
My heart truly breaks for you. Kelly was my sons 4th grade teacher and she was so special. She was tireless and always gave 110%. She worked extra hard with Henry because she knew his potential was greater than he was showing. She was one of those teachers that make a lasting imprint on your life. Although you are devastated today please take some solace in knowing she made a lasting imprint on one little boy and he will try to be a better person everyday in her memory.
God Bless your family and know that you are in our prayers.
Rest in Peace Ms McKeon. As Billy Joel sings ~ Only the Good Die Young ~and Kelly was one of a kind!

Kelly McKeon was one of the most amazing teachers I have ever encountered. And also one of the most amazing persons I have ever encountered. She radiated goodness and cheer and was always positive. I can remember when she was promoted to "official" teacher from assistant teacher. There were some who had doubts because she had never done this before (had her own class). And those doubts challenged her. But I will never forget how she stood up tall and went to work and she proved to everyone that she was not just capable of doing the job, but that she was PERFECT for the job.
Her thoughtful and caring approach to teaching was so clearly from the heart.
My family was blessed to have had Kelly teach our oldest son twice: once for 2nd grade religion (and first communion preparation) in the 2015-2016 school year and then this year for 4th grade.
Her kindness toward us and our son is something we will cherish always. She was a wonderful, dedicated teacher, full of love. It seemed she was happiest when she was watching her students in action, especially with something she had helped them prepare. Whether it was the 2nd grade Saints project or leading morning assembly, she beamed watching her students. She knew how hard they worked and she knew how much we parents were anticipating the event and she seemed filled with joy for all of us.
The Academy of St. Joseph is truly heartbroken. She was our angel.
On behalf of my family, to the McKeon family, we offer our deepest sympathy. We cannot know your loss but please know that your Kelly truly touched the entire school.
We thank you for letting us share in some of Kelly's amazing spirit. We have no doubt that she is already in heaven, rounding up the kids for a day of fun learning right now. And yes, fun learning because she made learning fun.
To me, the biggest endorsement of her comes from our 9 year old Zeke who said, after the first couple days of 4th grade, "she's a lot more fun than I thought she would be!", with a big smile.
Kelly left a HUGE, positive, loving mark upon the world - upon our children, upon the teachers and staff and upon us parents. We shall strive to honor her memory every day by trying to be more like her. We shall miss her every day.
But we have no doubt that we have a new guardian angel for our kids and our school. Her name is Kelly. Saint Kelly McKeon.

I love you so much Kelly. You were my friend from the moment we met at AOSJ. There are very few people in life that can make another person just feel so at ease, so understood and so comfortable. Your light shined so bright everyday. I remember helping you set your room up that summer you started teaching. And the funny skating shoes I gave you and how we laughed. We would just look at each other and laugh when things got stressful. You always made me feel understood and were so kind. I miss you so much here. I am so grateful for your laughter, for your incredible spirit and good energy. You are a beautiful person . My heart breaks for your family, for all of us - but at the same time I know you gave us in your short life - what we all need - brilliance, talent, a sense of humor and a pure and loving heart. I love you so much - I will always be your friend, and I will see you when it is my time:) God Bless - you It hurts so bad - I will LOVE as you have shown us all - With Irish Eyes Smiling (crying but smiling!), John Byrne

My Dear Kelly,
I don’t know if ever in my lifetime I will understand why you were taken from us when you were. There are no words or emotions to express the pain and grief I know so many people are feeling with hearing this tragic news. A healthy, young, vibrant woman with the whole world in front of her. A fourth grade teacher, a loving daughter, cousin, friend, and roommate. We were just at dinner catching up about life over wine talking about how funny your students are this year, and how great your haircut looked. We walked the wrong way in the rain for a while and laughed it off because it just meant we had more time to catch up. Well traveled, well spoken, well dressed, but most importantly, a humble, genuine and sweet friend with a smile that could blind the sun. If someone were to model what a teacher should be like, it would be you. You embody all of the qualities of a person that should be teaching our youth—and I know the community you worked in saw that as well. I don’t want to accept that seeing your face, hearing your voice, opening your snapchats, or texting about dating are all now things of the past. Wine on your building rooftop, wine on the white couch, sleepovers in the west village, delicious city dinners and silly nights out. --Our trip to Disney world, senior year Punta Cana and meeting in Europe are just a few of the highlights I’ll remember-- Target runs, froyo dates, late night kitchen chats, runs around the neighborhood and doing crunches in the living room. We are absolutely broken. You were there for me during some of the hardest days of my life and I will be forever thankful for that. This hole we feel in our heart may never mend, but in it we will attempt to fill all of the good things that you gave to us. I am certain there was not one bad bone in your body. I’ll miss the way your eyes disappear when you smile and the tone your voice takes when you imitate your students. I hope that you’re on beach with a tropical drink basting in a gentle sun as to not burn your delicate and beautiful Irish skin . Thank you for being an amazing friend who showed actions were more meaningful than words by always being there. Coming from wherever you were, many times alone just to be present for so many exciting and non-exciting moments over the years. So thankful that Loyola brought me you as a friend and then a roommate 7 years ago. Not knowing the last time I would see you would be on the day I ran the NYC marathon I would have hugged you a bit tighter and a bit longer <3 but that last memory of you and I in person was such a great one. You were so proud of me—texting me through the day with empowering messages to get me through to the finish line, and I was on cloud nine being so excited to have my closest friends there with me <3 that is how we will remember one another. Smiling, hugging, and lifting up each other.
I will never understand this. I will never stop missing you, never stop thinking of you, never forget the sound of your voice or the look on your face when you smiled, told a funny story, or reprimanded Scarlett for something silly she did.
Although I’ll have to move forward with you as an everlasting and incredible memory- I will live knowing that there are too many unfinished wine bottles, untold stories, uneaten dinners and un-lived experiences between us. Know that every moment you’ve been in my life you’ve made it better. Your presence, your smile, your jokes, your stories—all positive additions to not only me, but all of those around you. Your energy and brightness will forever be unparalleled. I love you our dearest Kelly Lelly Skelly. Protect us and guide us from your eternal resting place. Thinking of your family during this difficult time. I'll see you again one sweet day <3

My heart breaks upon hearing this unimaginable news. Kelly was such a beautiful and kind person. She was also a wonderful teacher. I met Kelly while my daughter attended AOSJ. I also subbed for her many times. I write this with tears in my eyes. Be assured of my prayers for Kelly and her family. She is with the Lord now and even though it is so difficult for those she has left behind, that is a beautiful place to be. ✝️
