Obituary of George Ayer Bradley
George Ayer Bradley, of Trumbull, formerly of Stratford and Fairfield, loving husband of the late Janet T. Bradley, passed away on October 1, 2017 comforted by his family.
George's memory will be embraced by his children, James Bradley and his wife Ruth of Wilmington, NC; Neil Bradley and his wife Maria of Cheshire, CT; Anne Dunbar and her husband Andrew of Orchard Park, NY; his cherished grandchildren, William Bradley and his fiancé Karina Silvester, Daniel Bradley, Ryan Bradley and his wife Betsy, Justin Bradley, Katherine Bradley, Katharine Dunbar and Caroline Dunbar; Sister-in-Law Heather Bradley; his niece, Carter Bradley and nephew, Michael Bradley. He was predeceased by his parents, James Joseph and Marilla C. Ayer, his brother James Bradley, and his nephew, Kevin Bradley.
George was born on March 28, 1930 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13 and was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Saint George's School in Middletown, Rhode Island. He graduated from MIT in 1952 with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He met the love of his life, Janet Murphy, on a fateful TWA flight in 1952. She was a stewardess while he was a senior in college. They were married for 61 years. George was the Technical Director for the Bridgeport Brass Company where he had a long and successful career. He worked as a consultant for many years before retiring. George served as Commodore of the Black Rock Yacht Club in 1978 and served on the Oronoque Village Maintenance Committee. George was an avid sailor and photographer. He was passionate about renovating MG cars, reading American history, investing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He and Janet were devoted parents and together loved to travel and entertain. George will be remembered as being kind and generous, but more so for his playful sense of humor and wit.
Calling hours are on Thursday from 4-8 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. On Friday, his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 AM in Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, in Fairfield. His interment will take place in St. Jerome's Cemetery, in Holyoke, MA on Saturday.
