Obituary of Jill R Karpovich

Jill Rae Carlson Karpovich, age 65, of Oxford, beloved wife of Peter Karpovich, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Limestone, Maine on January 7, 1952, daughter of the late Albert and Jacqueline Carlson, Jill was raised in Shelton, graduated from Shelton High and was Captain of the Color Guard. She was married to her husband Pete on June 19, 1981 and had been an Oxford Town resident since. Jill worked as a secretary for her husband Sheriff Peter Karpovich for over 36 years as well as the Republican Registrar of Voters for the town of Oxford. She also belonged to the Oxford Republican Town Committee, a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Oxford Center Fire Department, Treasurer of the Oxford Ambulance Corps as well as Financial Secretary of the East End Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary. Jill enjoyed watching UCONN Ladies Basketball, country music and especially loved the times cruising Long Island Sound and visiting Port Jefferson with her husband Pete aboard the " Miss Jill Rae ". In addition to Pete, her husband of 36 years, Jill leaves behind her sons, Jason Karpovich and his wife Jennifer of Seymour and Jon Karpovich and his wife Lisa of Southbury, a step son, Peter Karpovich III of Elmira, NY, a step daughter Christine Graves and her husband Scott of Tennessee, grandchildren Nicholas and Keri Karpovich, Mason and Jaxon Karpovich and Crystal Graves and a great-granddaughter Mykah. She is also survived by a brother Al Carlson and his wife Holly of Peakskill, NY, nieces Corinne and Amanda as well as many dear and close friends. Jill will be greatly missed by her little best friend " Tia ". Jill was predeceased by her grandson Michael Graves and brother Randy Carlson. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1-5 pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center with a prayer service at 4:30 pm.
