Helen B Matto Obituary

Helen Matto passed away on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026, at the remarkable age of 98.

Born in Fayetteville County, Pennsylvania, she moved with her family to Fairfield, Connecticut, in her early teens. She lived a full and vibrant life by faith and dedication to her family.

Helen found enjoyment playing tennis and going to the beach with family and friends.  Having a deep passion for the opera, frequently enjoying performances at the Cline Memorial.  Helen’s love of travel included extensive adventures through Europe with her sister Elizabeth and Goldie.  As Helen was a dedicated member of a local camera club, she was sure to entertain her family with countless photos and ‘slides” of their trips.

In addition to her many talents, Helen participated in the choir of the United Church of Christ of Bridgeport. Family time was often spent playing badminton, croquet, or a game of pinochle after a Sunday dinner. She took peaceful walks at Saint Mary’s by the sea and always enjoyed a fresh fish meal at the Stratford shoreline at Marnick’s Restaurant.  In her later years, she delighted in singing “You Are My Sunshine”, a song close to her heart.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Julia Bodi Matto, as well as her siblings: William, Stephen, Emil, Alex, Goldie, Grace, and her sister Elizabeth.  She is survived by many caring nieces and nephews, including Karen Nebiolo and her husband Tony, Linda Pastor and her husband Bob, Alan Moisio and his wife Eleanor, and Larry Moisio and his wife Patricia, Donna and Myron Reach of Pa., along with numerous loving family members.

Helen will be dearly missed and remembered for the kindness and warmth she brought to her family and friends.
