Edwin Shedd Michaels, 92, of Fairfield, passed away on June 4, 2026.

Born in 1934, he was the son of Ernest E. and Elizabeth Michaels. Edwin was raised in Birmingham, Alabama, before moving to Chicago. He graduated from Lake Forest Academy and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Duke University, where he also played as a placekicker on the football team and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After serving in the United States Army Chemical Corps and receiving an Honorable Discharge, Edwin worked for several major chemical companies, retiring from Stauffer Chemical Company as Director of Research and Development. He was credited by name on a corporate patent for developing a polymer concrete product. Later, he became a professional photographer.

Edwin was involved in many community organizations, including the Westport Country Playhouse, Christ and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Vestry, and community advisory boards. He also participated in YMCA Indian Guides and served as Head Umpire with Westport Little League. He was a Vestry Member at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport and a member of Fairfield Rotary, the Gaelic American Club, and Fayerweather Yacht Club. He was formerly a member of The Patterson Club, the Mid Ocean Club of Bermuda, and The Fairfield County Hunt Club. His hobbies included golfing, gardening, participating in the Cotillion Club of Fairfield County, following the Duke Blue Devils basketball team, and both amateur and professional photography.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest E. and Elizabeth Michaels; his son, Jeffrey Scott Michaels; and his sister, Elizabeth Mochel. Edwin is survived by his beloved wife, Hilary Michaels; his children, Stephen Michaels and Kathrine Elizabeth Schuster; his grandchildren, Jordan Michaels and Victoria Michaels; and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Caroline Michaels. He is also survived by Hilary's children, Ashley, Philip (Elizabeth), and Christopher (Mary Kate), and Hilary's grandchildren, Christopher, Madeline, Riley, Lily, Tyler, and Sawyer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, at 11:00 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 651 Pequot Avenue, Southport, CT.
