Kimball John Bechtold, age 78, passed away on May 14, 2026, at his home in Southport, Connecticut.

He was born on December 5, 1947, in Freeport, New York, and raised in Cold Spring Harbor by his mother, Edna Bechtold, and father, Edward Bechtold.

Kimball attended the University of Maryland, where he played varsity lacrosse and met his wife, Joan. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant before building a successful career as a financial advisor. His officer training took place in Arizona, a place that remained special to him. He and Joan spent the early years of their marriage there and returned for many years thereafter to enjoy winters in the desert.

A lifelong-lacrosse enthusiast, Kimball coached at the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club, mentoring his sons and many other local children over the years. He also loved boating, taking his boat on numerous trips across Long Island Sound.

Kimball will be remembered for his dedication to family, his strong work ethic, and the lasting friendships he forged throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dori Bechtold. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Bechtold; his sons, Justin Bechtold and his wife, Elizabeth, and Gavin Bechtold; his grandchildren, Luke and Lane Bechtold; and his sister, Edwinna Nault of Florida.

A private funeral and memorial service will honor his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kimball's memory to The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Westport, or the Southport Wakeman Boys & Girls Club.
