Marianne LaPointe Obituary
Marianne Felletter LaPointe, PhD, age 81, passed away on March 23, 2026, in Fairfield, Connecticut. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut, to the late Walter P. Felletter and Mary K. Felletter.
Marianne earned a Doctorate and Master of Arts in History, as well as a Master of Science in Education, from Fordham University in New York. She enjoyed a long and distinguished career in higher education, teaching for approximately 30 years at the University of Connecticut and Norwalk Community College. A dedicated and passionate educator, she taught a wide range of courses in early modern history and Western civilization, inspiring generations of students through her scholarship and love of learning.
In her early years, Marianne devoted herself fully to raising her family. Later, she enjoyed a successful chapter working as a real estate agent in both Virginia and Connecticut, demonstrating the same professionalism and commitment that defined every stage of her life.
Beyond her academic and professional pursuits, Marianne lived richly through a wide array of interests. She was an avid collector of antiques, a talented classical pianist, and a lifelong lover of learning and strategy who enjoyed chess, mahjong, and card games. She took great joy in gardening, writing books, and dedicating her time to animal rescue volunteer work, reflecting her deep compassion and generosity of spirit.
Marianne is survived by her husband, Richard W. LaPointe; her children, Constance McQueen, Richard LaPointe, Jr. (Veronica), Jason LaPointe (Lucy), and Susan LaPointe Hongo (Darren); and her grandchildren: Cameron McQueen, Anthony LaPointe, Lindsay LaPointe, Raymond LaPointe, Courtney LaPointe, and Darren Hongo, Jr.
She was predeceased by her parents; her siblings, Patricia Drew, Francis Felletter, and Vincent Felletter; and her grandson, Jason LaPointe, Jr.
Marianne Felletter LaPointe will be remembered for her intellect, kindness, devotion to family, and lifelong commitment to education and service. Her legacy lives on through her students, her writings, and the many lives she touched.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 26th, 2026, at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield, CT. Services will continue to St. Mary Cemetery in East Hartford, where Marianne will be laid to rest.
