Ann B. O'Shaughnessy Obituary

Ann B. O'Shaughnessy passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 93 years old. A resident of New Milford, CT, since 1992 and Fairfield, CT, Mrs. O'Shaughnessy was a proud first-generation American and, just as important to her, a New York City native.

Born December 12, 1931, in her family home in Woodside, Queens, NY, to Charles Bernard Short of Ballymena, Antrim, Ireland, and Bridget Delia Kerrigan of Ballintogher, Sligo, Ireland, Ann grew up in a large, loving Irish American family in the greatest city on earth. One of five siblings, all of whom preceded her in death, her family was the rock upon which she built and devoted all her life's activities.

In 1952, she met the loving cornerstone of her life, John Edward O'Shaughnessy, and on January 9, 1954, they were married in St. Sebastian's RC Church, Woodside, NY. At the time, Mr. O'Shaughnessy was in the US Army, stationed in Georgia, where Ann would join him until he was discharged a year later. Upon completion of his service, they settled in a variety of Queens, NY, neighborhoods, including Ozone Park, Woodside, and Douglaston.

Family was everything to Ann, and in December 1954, she and John welcomed the birth of their first son, John Edward Jr., followed by sons James in1957 and Brian in 1960. The couple later moved to Katonah, N.Y., where they welcomed a fourth son of the heart, nephew Kevin Donohue, into the fold.

As "empty nesters" in 1992, Ann and John moved to beautiful New Milford, Connecticut, and continued active participation in the life of their Catholic parishes (St. Anastasia's of Douglaston, NY, and St. Mary's of Katonah, NY previously) by joining the family of St. Francis Xavier. They made new friends, worked on their house and garden, and welcomed their growing family of grandchildren.

In recent years, Ann volunteered, along with dear friends, at the New Milford Thrift Mart, a town treasure. She and a group of good friends met weekly for breakfast (despite the challenge of having to wake earlier than usual that day) and occasional lunch dates. Reading was Ann's passion. Novels, histories, newspapers, and periodicals, she read them all and delighted in the way her understanding and appreciation for life broadened and deepened. Ann possessed a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh, be it with her friends playing bridge, socializing at the Thrift Mart, spending time at the salon, or at extended family gatherings, which she cherished. She had a great laugh!

Ann is survived by her son John and daughter-in-law Josephine of Berkeley, CA, son James and daughter-in-law Betty Ann of Fairfield, CT, son Brian of New Haven, CT, and nephew Kevin Donohue and niece-in-law Patty of Tarrytown, NY. She is also survived by nine loving grandchildren, Lynn, Claire, Daniel, John, Conor, Lauren, Eileen, Kelly, and Timothy, and seven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at a later date at Saint Luke Church located at 49 Turkey Hill Road, Westport, CT, on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 11:00 am. The Family will receive visitors, family, and friends at that time. Burial will follow at a later date in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in New Milford, CT, where she will be interred next to her beloved husband John.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in her memory be made to the American Cancer Society or to the New Milford, Connecticut VNA Hospice, 68 Park Lane Road, New Milford, CT 06776.
