Paul Francis Sweeney, age 75, passed away suddenly on December 28, 2025. Paul was the devoted husband of 50 years to Eileen Ann Sweeney (Hickey), with whom he built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering partnership.

    Born to Paul and Mary (Curry) Sweeney, Paul carried forward their love of learning. He was the loving father of Kathryn (Michael) O'Neill and Elizabeth Sweeney, and the proud grandfather of Patrick and Molly O'Neill, who brought him endless joy. He was a cherished brother to Michael (Nancy) Sweeney, Robert Sweeney, Joan Sweeney, and John (Jeanne) Swen.

    After attending Boston Latin High School, he earned his undergraduate degree from the College of the Holy Cross, followed by a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School. Later in life, driven by a deep passion for teaching and mathematics, he completed a Master's Degree in Math Education from the City College of New York.

    He spent 30 years of his career in the telecommunications industry, beginning in Boston with New England Telephone and later with Nynex in New York. After many successful years in the field, he embarked on a second career that brought him profound fulfillment—teaching high school math in the Bronx as part of the New York City Public School System. His students benefited not only from his knowledge, but from his patience, humor, and genuine belief in their potential.

    Paul loved to travel and treasured every moment spent with family and friends. Standing at 6 feet, 6 inches tall, he was larger than life—not only in stature, but in the way he embraced the world around him. His easy smile, gentle humor, and sincere interest in others made him a friend to everyone he met.

    His presence brought comfort, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by extended family, in-laws, many cherished nephews and nieces, life-long friends, and neighbors who were like family.

    His legacy of kindness, curiosity, and quiet strength will live on in all whose lives he touched.

    Friends and family are invited to gather on Friday, January 2, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Lesko Funeral Home (1209 Post Rd, Fairfield, CT). A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 3, at 11 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church (149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield, CT). A private internment will take place on a future date.
