Robert F. Cahill, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, in 1933 to Frances and Margaret Cahill and grew up in Revere, Massachusetts. He was a proud graduate of Boston College, Class of 1956. Following college, he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
In 1960, Robert married the love of his life, Eileen. Together they raised five children and built a life around family, love, and laughter. He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen, whom he missed deeply every day after her passing ten years ago, never failing to remind his family how much she meant to him, "she was always on his mind."
Robert held so many great memories with his family, including camping trips, backyard ice skating rinks, summers spent with friends at Black Rock Yacht Club, Half Mile Road, family birthday trips, family dinners at the Irish Club, and concerts at the Sherman Green. He was also a skilled woodworker and spent countless hours in his "shop," where he created furniture, decorations, and special-request pieces. Most of his creations remain in use today, lasting reminders of him. After retirement, he and Eileen embraced their love of travel and history, enjoying many unforgettable trips throughout Europe and across the United States and Canada.
Robert began his professional career with Sylvania Electronics in Waltham, Massachusetts, which led to transfers to Syracuse, New York, and ultimately to Fairfield, where he and his family made their home for the next 50 years. He concluded his distinguished career with what he proudly called an "opportunity of a lifetime," serving as Executive Vice President overseeing the restoration of the Statue of Liberty for its centennial in 1986—an achievement that reflected both his leadership and his deep appreciation for American history.
Robert was predeceased by his brother, William "Billy" Cahill; his parents, Frances and Margaret Cahill; and a baby sister, Suzanne.
He is survived by his children: Robert Cahill Jr. of Fairfield; Christine Hogan and her husband Anthony of Fairfield; Cathy Nelson and her husband Ronald of Fairfield; Paul Cahill and his wife Susan of Cheshire, Connecticut; and Patricia Steeley and her husband Kevin of Pittsford, New York. He was a proud grandfather, lovingly known as "Bob" to his grandchildren: Michael Hogan and his wife Allie, Patrick Hogan, Emily Nelson, Alice Nelson, Sarah Steeley, Kevin Steeley, Ryan Steeley, and Elizabeth Cahill. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Clare Hogan and Bridget "Birdie" Hogan.
Robert is also survived by his siblings: Joanne Maynard of The Villages, Florida; Patricia Voke of Eastham, Massachusetts; Richard Cahill and his wife Bonnie of Eastham, Massachusetts; and his sister-in-law, Betty Cahill of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Robert will be remembered for always being by the side of his wife Eileen, his best friend, and for the love and pride they shared in the family they created together.
Calling hours for Robert will be held on Sunday, January 4th, 2026, from 4-6 pm at the Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center. Robert will be laid to rest privately at Oak Lawn Cemetery next to his wife, Eileen.
