Kevin J. Cassidy Obituary

Kevin John Cassidy, 84, of Bridgeport, CT, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Born in the "Fighting City" of Buffalo, New York, Kevin was the son of Jack Cassidy of County Cavan, Ireland, and Alice Lavin of Buffalo. He attended The Catholic University of America and later moved to New York City, where he was a member of the Christian Brothers. After studying and researching in Paris, Kevin went on to earn his Doctorate at CUNY.

In 1969, Kevin married the love of his life, Edith Bibro, in New York City. Shortly thereafter, they settled in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Kevin began his remarkable 47-year career at Fairfield University. A passionate educator and mentor, he taught generations of students and helped shape numerous university initiatives. Kevin served as director of the Peace and Justice Studies Program, chaired the Faculty Welfare Committee, and led the Irish Studies Department.

An accomplished scholar, Kevin published a book on economic conversion and was eagerly anticipating the release of his forthcoming book Beyond the Good Friday Agreement that explores Northern Ireland's cross-community building, scheduled for publication in June 2026.

Above all, Kevin's pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Edie, and his son, Stephen, and daughter, Molly — both of whom proudly followed in his footsteps into education. Kevin's legacy continues through his five beloved grandchildren: Cassidy, Maya, Tyler, Aly, and Tris.

Beyond the classroom, Kevin was a cornerstone of his community. Known for his activism and commitment to justice, he spearheaded causes throughout Bridgeport and beyond. He enjoyed volunteering as a Black Rock Little League umpire, rooting for the Bills and the Mets, and enthusiastically attending his various grandchildren's sporting events.

Kevin will be remembered for his kindness and his gift for making everyone he met feel accepted, connected, and valued.
