Carol Welch Russell of Southport passed away on October 19, 2025, at the age of 88.

Carol was the daughter of Gertrude Carroll and Thomas Welch and was born and raised in Westville, New Haven. She graduated from Saint Mary's High School and Albertus Magnus College. She taught in the Guilford school system before raising her family with her husband, Robert Russell, in Southport.

Carol is survived by Robert, her children Catherine Infantino (Robert) of Newton MA, Suzanne Russell of Benicia CA, Kristen Mandal of Benicia CA, and Michael Russell of Southport. She also leaves her grandchildren, Niall Mandal, Krishna Mandal, Sophie Mandal, Charlie Infantino and William Infantino. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Thomas Welch.

Carol nurtured and maintained lifelong friendships from childhood, through college, to the beloved Southport neighbors. She enjoyed playing bridge, sailing at The Sea Lodge, and skiing with her family in Vermont. She was a student of American history and a fan of Broadway, baseball, and the UConn Huskies. For over 50 summers, Carol and the crew trekked to Great Pond in Maine where memories were made with the families who returned every year. She travelled throughout Europe and spent many winters on Sanibel Island with Bob and the New Haven gang. Carol volunteered several thousands of hours at St. Vincent's Medical Center, hours that brought her purpose and new friends in her later years. She was a fixture at The Pequot Library Book Sale, and a devoted parishioner of St.

Luke Church in Westport.

Carol was everything to her family. She was smart, funny, well-read, interested in life, beautiful in every way. She brought joy and comfort to her parents and aunts, and cared for them graciously as they aged. She was "Super Mom" to her children and countless dogs, cats and other creatures. She welcomed everyone who came through her door with her warm sweet smile and easy manner, her gentle guidance and unwavering love and support. She will be missed every day, beyond measure.
