Mary Leah Weiss, 91, of Fairfield, formerly of Black Rock and New York City, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Carolton Convalescent Home after a brief illness. Born on June 19, 1934, in Hazleton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Anne Weiss.
Mary Leah was one of four siblings, all of whom preceded her in death: her oldest sister Joanne DeMartin of Fairfield, her twin sister Patricia Porter of Fairfield, and her brother John Weiss of Wayland, MA.
She lived a full and vibrant life. Mary Leah built a career in New York City, where for more than 40 years she owned and ran Mary Leah Weiss Market Research, a boutique marketing firm. She was also an accomplished world traveler, and one of her greatest joys was bringing her nieces along on her adventures around the globe—memories they will treasure forever.
Known affectionately as a devoted "cat lady," Mary Leah had a lifelong love of animals, especially cats. Her Murray Hill home was filled with their presence—along with statues, paintings, and photographs that reflected her affection. Thanks to her kindness, hundreds of cats lived better, happier lives.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews Trish and Tom Sullivan of Fairfield, John Weiss of Los Angeles, CA, Sarah and Scott Auerbach of Amherst, MA, Alicia DeMartin of Deep River, CT, Joanna DeMartin and David Guglielmo of Weston, CT, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews: Ben, Zach, Abigail, Maddie, Nick, Annie, Gillan, and Eleanor.
Mary Leah will be remembered for her independence, her sharp wit, her generosity, and her deep love for family and animals.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 12 PM. For travel directions or to sign her online guest register, please visit www.LeskoFuneralHome.com.
In keeping with Mary Leah's wishes and her love for animals, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to:
