Karen E. Hira, 78, of Fairfield, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Hira of New York City; her daughter, Michelle Hira-Wilson of Fairfield, CT; and her beloved grandsons, Jake and Jesse Wilson of Fairfield, CT. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Castellano of West Milford, NJ, and her brother, David Osika of Parrish, FL, along with several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, John Hira, her mother, Margaret Colodonato, and her father, Edward Osika.
Karen was born and grew up in Bridgeport, CT, graduating from Central High School. Karen was a lifelong Fairfield resident. She had a vibrant spirit and a passion for life. She loved attending car shows with her late husband, proudly showcasing their classic '58 Chevy. She cherished joyful moments with her friends, engaging in fun excursions, doing puzzles, and playing Scrabble. Her love for nature was evident in the peaceful walks she enjoyed along the shore with her dogs. Most importantly, she treasured the time spent with her grandsons, actively watching them grow and flourish.
Professionally, Karen dedicated a significant part of her life to Fairfield University, where she worked in the Bursar's office, making lasting connections and contributing to the university community.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful team at Hartford Health Home Hospice for their compassionate help and support over the last few months.
