Obituary of Jay James Gasper
Please share a memory of Jay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jay James Gasper
August 26, 1954 – April 14, 2025
Jay James Gasper, a lifelong resident of Fairfield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 70. In his final days, he was surrounded by love—his children each came to be with him, and his beloved wife remained faithfully by his side.
Known for his steady hands, laid-back spirit, and deep love for his family, Jay lived a simple life full of heart, humor, and hard work.
Born to George and Arlene Gasper, Jay was raised with a strong work ethic and an appreciation for honest labor. He followed in his father's footsteps as an ironworker and later worked as a lather before settling into a long and fulfilling career as a carpenter. Whether it was building with steel, shaping with wire, or crafting with wood, Jay's work reflected the care and quiet pride he carried through life.
Jay found joy in life's simpler pleasures—a cold Coca-Cola, playing his numbers, Elvis and Beatles tunes, and time spent in his garden or out fishing. He had a green thumb, a patient heart, and a true love for the outdoors. He also cherished time on the golf course with his close-knit group of friends, where laughter and stories were just as important as the game. No matter the season, you could count on Jay wearing a flannel shirt or a pocketed t-shirt—never fancy, always comfortable, just like him.
Above all, Jay loved his family deeply. He adored being "Papa" to his grandchildren, Arianna and Elijah, and treasured every moment spent with them.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Gasper of Fairfield; his daughter, Arlene Gasper of Bridgeport; his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Jacqueline Gasper of Glendale, CA; and his daughter and son-in-law, Annelise and Herbert Brooks of Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. He was a proud grandfather to his beloved grandchildren, Arianna and Elijah Brooks.
He also leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, George and Robin Gasper; nephews Chip Gasper and Christian Gasper, along with Christian's wife Sarah and their daughter Abigail. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and David Nobili, and their son Brian Gasper Nobili, his wife Felicia, and their daughter Demira. He will be remembered by his sister-in-law, Victoria Teixeira, and her children — his nieces Rachael Teixeira and daughters Ella and Ava, and Marcellina Teixeira.
Jay is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched and who will miss him dearly.
Jay now joins his parents, George and Arlene Gasper, along with his lifelong friends Gary Burdett and Richard Renzulli, who meant the world to him. Though we grieve his passing, we find comfort in knowing he is reunited with those he loved, and that his legacy will live on in the hands and hearts of those he touched.
Jay lived a life built on love, laughter, and lasting memories. Though he kept things simple, the impact he leaves behind is anything but.
Visitation will be held by the family on Friday, April 25th, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30AM at Lesko Funeral Home, located at 1209 Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824. Jay will then be laid to rest at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport.
In lieu of flowers, take a moment to share a Coke, plant something, play your favorite Beatles song, or fix something for someone else—just as Jay would have.
