Obituary of Aloysius "louis" Polak

Please share a memory of Aloysius to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Aloysius "Slavko" Polak, or "Louis" as many know him, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, at the age of 91. He was a cherished member of the Easton, CT community.

Born in Murska Sobota, Slovenia, then part of Jugoslavija, on June 8th, 1933, Aloysius was the son of Martin and Ana Polak. He immigrated to the United States in November of 1956, fulfilling his dream of a better life. He married the love of his life, Ann Mary Duh, on August 2, 1958, and together they celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage.

In 1962, Aloysius embraced the entrepreneurial spirit and opened his own glass shop, where he worked diligently for over 50 years before retiring. An avid outdoorsman, he could often be found hunting during the winter months and enjoying boating, fishing, and gardening in the summertime.

Louis was also known as a social butterfly, frequently spending hours at the bowling alley, where his passion for the sport shone through. His strong faith was evident as he actively participated in his church community, singing in the choir. Demonstrating his craftsmanship, he recycled stained glass from the demolition of his former church and gave it new life, thoughtfully and carefully installing it in the new church built in 1972.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his daughter Slavica and her husband Marc Cesare; his son Martin Polak and his wife Merryl; and his daughter Ann Margaret Mitchell. He was a proud grandfather to Nicholas and Olivia Grogin, Marc and Brittany Cesare, Mila and Mischa Polak, and great-grandfather to Cece Williams and Aria Cesare.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on March 27th at Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield, CT. A Mass in memory of Louis will take place at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church located at 750 Tahmore Drive in Fairfield, on March 28th at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield, CT.

The family encourages donations to the church in Louis's honor, continuing his legacy of generosity and love for his community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
