Isabel R. Low

01/09/1942 – 03/04/2025

English:

Isabel (Isa) Low, 83, a loving mother, sister, aunt, grand aunt, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Branford, CT.

Isabel was born in Duitama, Colombia, on January 9, 1942, where she spent her childhood. She is survived by her daughter Jenny Low, her brother Hernan and wife Leonor Rivera, her sisters Lucia and husband Alberto Orozco, Helena Young, and Marta Rivera, as well as her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She is predeceased by her mother Maria Estrada de Rivera, her father Humberto Rivera, and her brothers Humberto and Luis Rivera.

As a young girl, Isabel loved the outdoors, climbing trees, water skiing, and horseback riding. As she grew, her beauty, both inside and out, captured the attention of those around her. While attending college in Bogota, Colombia, she was invited to enter the Queen of College Sports Beauty Contest. Persuaded largely by the enthusiasm of her father, she accepted and went on to win not just one but many contests. She even competed for Miss Colombia where she received many accolades from the famous Latin comedian, Mario Moreno Reyes aka "Cantinflas".

It wasn't long before Isabel, not wanting to be defined by beauty contests alone and ever the independent spirit, took the brave step to leave her native Colombia for a new life in a new country. She courageously moved to the United States, not speaking the language, but determined to make it her home. She first settled in Los Angeles, CA where she worked for Bank of America and Pacific Telephone Co. She also worked for the actress Shirley MacLaine, affording her the opportunity to meet many Hollywood celebrities.

Isabel then moved to Connecticut, where she began a career in real estate and later worked at St. Joseph Family Life Center, a subsidiary of St. Vincent Hospital. Here, she coordinated healthcare access for the indigent population. With her giving nature, this kind of work brought her a great deal of satisfaction. Along with her professional work, Isabel pursued her lifelong passion for gardening, floral arranging, and, more recently, pickleball. These activities gave her much joy and camaraderie.

Isabel's legacy of love, generosity, and strength will continue to inspire all of us who have had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A memorial service is scheduled at eleven o'clock in the morning of Friday, the 4th of April at St Margaret Shrine, 2523 Park Ave in Bridgeport, CT. Immediately after the service, the family invites friends to join them for a time of remembrance at the Shrine's salon. Interment will be privately held at a later date.
