Susan (Sue) Dora Mester, age 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a long illness.
Sue will be remembered for her unwavering spirit, nurturing heart, and the loving relationships she cultivated throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who know her.
Born in Bridgeport, CT, Sue was the daughter of Harold and Adelaide Britton. After graduating from Harding High School in 1965, she went on to receive her nursing degree at St. Vincent's LPN School. Sue dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a labor and delivery nurse at Park City Hospital, followed by her work at Carolton Convalescent Home in Fairfield and in private duty nursing. In May 1972, she married her beloved husband, Robert Joseph Mester, in Bridgeport. Their love story began in the vibrant world of Drum and Bugle Corps, where she proudly participated with St. Raphael's and PAL Cadets and later joined the Park City Pride alumni corps. Sue was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport, having spent 53 years in the Black Rock community. A devout Catholic, Sue was an active member of St. Ann Church in Black Rock, where her faith and compassion touched the lives of many.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Mester; daughter Alison Mester-Ibarra, her husband Julio Ibarra, and their children, Adelaide and Julien Antolín; daughter Jamie Bazso and her husband William Bazso, and their daughter Audrey Bazso; along with many cherished nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Sue was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Adelaide Britton; her twin sisters, Barbara and Carol; her grandson, Robert Bazso; and her niece, Dawn, and nephew, Joseph.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 19th, from 3 PM to 7 PM at Lesko Funeral Home, located at 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center. The services will continue at Saint Ann Church on Thursday, February 20th, at 11 AM. Following the funeral mass, her burial will take place at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable memorial donations be made to the ASPCA, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or St. Ann Church, 481 Brewster Street, Bridgeport, CT. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Bridgeport Hospital ICU for their kindness and compassionate care during Sue's final days.
